This is the era of prefabricated construction where companies are no longer dependent on factors such as labour, environmental extremities, etc. Driven by innovative designs and state-of-the-art technology, prefabricated buildings are the potential game-changers for the construction industry. It’s up to us how we embrace the change and move ahead to survive in this highly competitive market.

Paradigm Shift in the Construction Industry- INNOVATION FASTRACK COST EFFICIENCY

Contributing 13% to the global GDP, construction is the largest industry globally and is set to unlock significant value through productivity enhancements. There are newer entrants in the field who are brimming with incredibly sound ideas, there is technology at play, and then there is a growing expanse of innovative materials in the offing. If we come to think of it, the construction sector is up for a BIG BANG MAKEOVER…

In tune with the changing times, a recent report by McKinsey indicates that the strategies to be followed in the sector if it has to emerge stronger from the current crisis include digitalization, investing in innovation, and committing to energy efficiency, in line with the principles of the circular economy. This is precisely what we, as industry players, are continuously focusing on. Believe it or not, the COVID-19 pandemic has pushed us all to reflect on the way of life we lead and how we influence our environment, more so in the sector we operate in. The last 24+ months have taught us a great lesson to ‘Disrupt Disruptions’. And we do that by making incremental changes in our business and introducing radical ideas in the construction space to make Prefabrication accessible and affordable to the MSME segments which is a white space now.

The Role of Prefabrication in Modern Construction

This was the sole idea when we started Steelion – a new-age construction company with Prefab as its EDGE! Why? Well prefabrication simplifies the building process, breaking it into fewer building phases, which eventually minimizes chances of error and improves assurance for the customer by delivering a soundly built structure. Modular construction is no longer about simply stacking precast concrete panels into monotonous structures; it has varied offerings such as high-quality designs and materials.

I firmly believe that the early adopters of modular construction will be the Construction Leaders of Tomorrow. Why am I so confident about this change? There are many reasons to substantiate my claim. First, smart building technology will result in greater design complexity, requiring modular approaches to secure building quality and congestion. Also, sustainability restrictions will tighten construction site regulations regarding duration, transport quantities, light, noise, and dust emissions. As modular players continue to gain credibility and scale, this will ultimately take construction productivity to new heights. To achieve this objective, we the government, developers, investors, and others worldwide – need to work in unison and develop a sustainable construction ecosystem.

As we get out of the shackles of the COVID-19 pandemic, the next few months will see continued growth momentum in the offsite construction, owing to its intrinsic benefits. There is no doubt that contemporary offsite construction is radically changing the rules of architectural design; with prefabrication, buildings can do away with rigid, highly invasive, and risky methods that have an adverse impact on the environment. By integrating digital, precise, and collaborative technologies with innovative, lightweight, and high-performance materials, designers can achieve breakthrough results. To contribute to a more sustainable and creative world, it is of prudent importance to explore diverse and innovative offsite solutions.
